‘Girl Haunts Boy’ Now Streaming On Netflix

Written by Cesar Vitale and Dustin Ellis, Girl Haunts Boy tells the story of loss and love and navigating through your life or in Bea’s case, death.

This film was directed by Emily Ting and combines some of my favorite things; the supernatural, the 1920s, a love for music, and an ancient curse with a human boy and ghost girl as the main characters.

If you’re looking for a feel good (and not scary) Halloween movie, check out Girl Haunts Boy now streaming on Netflix. When Cole, a teen grieving the loss of his dad, moves into an old home with his mom, he forms an unlikely bond with Bea who is a ghost. Together, they work to figure out how to break the curse that is tied to her.

In the 1920s during a class field trip to the Spectral Valley Museum, Bea spots a ring in one of the glass cases. She takes the ring as she is leaving and is hit by a car as she’s about to cross the street. She is then somehow trapped in her childhood home as a ghost. One hundred years later Cole and his mom move in.

Cole (Michael Cimino) and Bea (Peyton List) quickly form a bond over music. There are cute moments where Cole explains to Bea who Taylor Swift is and they eventually share with each other the modern musicians and their old timey counterparts. Bea says that she wants to feel like she belongs again and Cole finds a way to make that happen on the anniversary of her death.

With Bea feeling as though she’ll be trapped as a ghost forever, Cole finds help from a friend from school whose grandfather owns a store specializing in the supernatural. They all work together to return the ring to its rightful place. This movie wraps up differently than I thought it would, but has an unexpected and sweet ending.

You can stream the movie now on Netflix and read the book version written by Cesar Vitale starting October 29.
