Checking out cities featured on PBS travel shows seems to be my new thing! Located in the Carson Valley in Nevada, I found out about Minden Mill Distilling when it was featured on an episode of 100 Days, Drinks, Dishes and Destinations hosted by Leslie Sbrocco.
The tour started with a brief history of the town of Minden and then we went through the main distillery. On their website, they say that “the Sierra Nevada Mountains are at the core of [their] identity. From the high Sierra snowpack, to the piñon pine forests, to the crops that thrive in this High Desert environment, we are inspired by the life and the experiences we have in this land” (mindenmill.com).

We booked our tour the day before and were able to have a private tour since no one else had signed up for one. Our tour guide said they were just at the start of their holiday season when it starts to get busier so we were there at a good time.

Apart from the whiskey and gin tastings, they also have wine selections and make craft cocktails in their upstairs bar. For those wondering about the accessibility, all surfaces are flat except for some cobblestone bricks in the driveway and on the way to the distillery tour, but they add to the old town feel. Everywhere else on the tour, inside the distillery, and inside the tasting room is flat. There is an elevator in the main tasting building.
Our tour guide was so knowledgable and had worked there for about a year. We learned a lot about the distilling process. It was incredible to learn that the original old mill facade is on the front of the new state of the art distillery! It’s such a beautiful setting. If you’re ever in the Carson City area, you should check it out and grab a drink or two!
