The Popular Podcast ‘Scamanda’ is now a Docuseries

Amanda Riley captured thousands with her blog documenting her battle with stage three blood cancer, but there was one problem. It was all a lie. From her blog, Amanda looked as though she was an ordinary wife, mother, and devoted Christian, but there was a secret she was keeping.

She had never been diagnosed with cancer and she was scamming her way through receiving money from friends and loyal blog followers for treatments and chemotherapy she didn’t need. She even had her family go along with her false narrative. Amanda lived in San Jose, California at the time.

This story blew my mind and I couldn’t believe how long she got away with it. I vaguely remember seeing a picture of her on Facebook when she still had her blog and I wonder if it was some sort of Go-Fund-Me. She took from so many people who were excited to help and thought their money was going to a good cause.

Slowly, the facade to her tragic story begins to crumble as “her story changes from inspiration to suspicion when someone sends an anonymous tip to investigative producer Nancy Mosciatello, who then embarks on a five-year-long investigation into Amanda” (ABC, Jim Donnelly).

I’m looking forward to this show! The podcast was so good and I can’t wait to see what they do with the docuseries which will have new interviews and more insight into the mind of a scammer. “Scamanda” premieres tonight, January 30 on ABC and tomorrow on Hulu.
