When passengers on a seemingly ordinary flight are told their future deaths by a mysterious woman, they start to live in fear as one by one her predictions begin coming true.
The book follows the passengers’ lives after the flight as well as Cherry, who becomes known as “The Death Lady,” after the flight. Cherry goes down the aisle of the plane and tells each passenger how they will die.
“Liane Moriarty’s Here One Moment is a brilliantly constructed tale that looks at free will and destiny, grief and love, and the endless struggle to maintain certainty and control in an uncertain world. A modern-day Jane Austen who humorously skewers social mores while spinning a web of mystery, Moriarty asks profound questions in her newest I-can’t-wait-to-find-out-what-happens novel” (Goodreads).
I gave this book 3.75 stars out of 5. I thought the opening setting was perfect. The plane is somewhere that people are forced to sit and stay until they land so the build up of listening to how they will die and have to think about it for the rest of the flight creates a creepy setting.
The writing and organization of weaving all the storylines of passengers from the plane was interesting. I was also very interested in Cherry’s story and her point of view. While Cherry’s chapters were interesting, I found myself looking forward to reading more of the passengers’ backgrounds and stories.
I have mixed feelings about the ending. I thought that there would’ve been a bigger reason as to why Cherry was making these predictions. With that being said, it deals with loss and love and how mental health can play a role when dealing with grief. I really enjoyed this book!
