The Otherwhere Post by Emily J. Taylor – Book Review

I’m not usually that into fantasy books, but this one caught my eye one day while watching Good Morning America and next thing I know, I couldn’t stop listening to the audiobook. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars.

It is a dark fantasy novel about Maeve, who seeks to clear her father’s name after he was blamed for a magical disaster seven years prior.

Maeve disguises herself as an apprentice at the Otherwhere Post, her father’s old school and an academy where couriers are trained in scriptomacy, the art of enchanting letters to travel between worlds. She receives a mysterious letter claiming her father’s innocence and embarks on a journey to uncover the truth.

“Her secretive, infuriatingly handsome mentor [Tristan] knows she’s lying about her identity, and time is running out to convince him to trust her. Worse, she begins to receive threatening letters, warning her to drop her investigation—or else. For Maeve to unravel the mystery of what happened seven years ago, she may have to forfeit her life” (Goodreads).

Something that really stood out to me and kept me listening was the magic. It feels new and fresh and wasn’t trying to copy other magical schools. Maeve and Tristan’s relationship is charming and Maeve’s strong personality is just what this book needs to keep it feeling current and new.

If you’re looking for a fantasy book or a magical book centered around writing, I’d totally recommend this book.
