If you ever find yourself in Genoa, Nevada, be sure to stop by the Pink House Restaurant. I recently ate there during a trip to Lake Tahoe which is just on the other side of the mountain from Genoa. It’s about a thirty minute drive.
I’ve been through Genoa a few times now and have always wanted to stop and try the restaurant and this time we did! It also happens to be listed in the National Register of Historic Places and I love old houses! Their website goes into more detail, saying “The Reese-Johnson-Virgin House, more commonly known to locals as the Pink House, stands near the center of town in historic Genoa, Nevada. It is also recognized for its architectural significance as an example of the Gothic Revival style that was popular in the 19th century.”
There is a beautiful outdoor seating area, but not all of it is wheelchair accessible. We decided to eat outside on the porch since the threshold of the side door into the restaurant wasn’t easy to wheel over. There’s a ramp up to the porch and stairs up to the main door, but I didn’t check the accessibility through the front door.
The food that I had was so delicious! I had the Crab Cake Caesar. Their menu describes it as, “a fresh crab cake on romaine lettuce, traditional Caesar dressing, house quick pickled okra, cherry tomatoes, and shaved parmesan.” There is also Everything Bagel seasoning and fresh Old Bay cornbread croutons. It was all so fresh and crisp. The Everything Bagel seasoning was a nice touch.
We also tried the Fried Green Tomato BLT. It had thick cut bacon, crispy romaine lettuce, fried green tomatoes, a little bit of mayo, and the secret ingredient (homemade bacon jam) all on toasted sliced sourdough. And the side that day was a choice of homemade potato salad, potato chips with homemade ranch dip or house salad. We had the potato salad. The potatoes were not mushy. They were still firm, almost al dente and so tasty with dill.
The porch was a nice spot to watch the cars go by and some days they have live music. I would definitely go back!
