High School Musical: The Musical: The Series Season 4!

Back when I visited East High School (yes, THE East High School) around 2007, I never would’ve imagined that the High School Musical franchise would get a series. I graduated high school when the third movie came out so my friend and I thought it would be fun to end our high school years by seeing the third movie in the theater. We cranked the soundtracks so loud in our cars that summer! That probably makes me sound really old, but I love that the series is staying true to the originals plus adding their own flair as well. True fans appreciate that; a little bit of the old with the new. The show just ended season three and season four is expected to come out some time next year!

While Olivia Rodrigo will not be returning for season four, the show’s creator Tim Federle talked about her character’s exit in season three. “What I wanted to say with Nini’s story is that everyone can’t have a perfect, happy ending every season, but there’s always a future where you’re driving off into something that could be even better or at least teach you something about yourself.”

“The song ‘Born to Be Brave’ is sentimental to me. I think it’s the theme of the entire series. We’ve always strived to tell stories that are representative and modern and queer and true and I just felt like there was no more beautiful way of doing that than reminding Nini that when she gets in the car, those voices are always gonna be with her.”

At the D23 Expo, the cast confirmed that the musical in season four will be High School Musical: Senior Year, the third movie in the franchise and the movie I watched in the theater way back in 2008! When they return to school, they find out that East High is being used to film High School Musical 4: The Reunion movie where they’ll be playing featured extras.

This brings up the question every real fan of the franchise is thinking. Who will be featured from the original cast? Federle confirmed to People Magazine that an invitation has gone out to all the original HSM stars to cameo. Corbin Bleu was just in season three, but this could mean he’ll come back for season four. We can’t forget when Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens visited East High within a month of each other recently and shared it on their Instagram accounts. Maybe it’s foreshadowing, but we’ll have to wait and see.

With season four coming soon, it just goes to show the legacy the original movies have left. The songs still take me back to those three years in high school when they came out. I love seeing the series bring back some of the original songs while creating new songs for the show as well. I can’t wait to see what season four has in store for the cast of the series…and maybe just maybe for some of the original cast as well.
