After watching the 8 part series, Soundbreaking: Stories from the Cutting Edge of Recorded Music on Hulu, I was reminded that I’ve always wanted to take a class about the history of rock and music in general.
Besides writing, music is something that helps me get through the day whether it’s a good one or a bad one. Even as a kid, I would make up dance routines to everything from musicals, to The Beatles, to Britney Spears. I’d blast the Spice Girls and Journey on my boom box. Music has had a stable place in my life ever since I can remember.
Now I have some time so I’ve decided to take an online history of rock and roll class this summer. It starts out with Ragtime, Popular Song, and the Jazz Roots of Rock and into Rhythm and Blues, to Rockabilly, British Invasion, Folk, Psychedelic, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Disco, New Wave, Hip Hop, and to Alternative Rock and into the 1990s with many sub-genres in between.
The class starts today so I’ll continue to post about the chapters throughout the summer. Hopefully you’ll find it as interesting as I do!
